Taylor's Falls Update: (as listed on the DNR's web site) Interstate Park officials have closed a popular rock climbing area known as the "Overlook." Recent investigations indicate that a cliff face in the overlook area is unstable and has the potential to collapse. This closure does not affect any of the park's hiking trails or other day use areas. Palisade Head/North Shore Update: There are rumors that part of Palisade Head on the North Shore is closed off. I emailed the DNR regarding this and here is what they had to say: We have no plans to close any climbing routes at Palisade Head. The rumor you could have possibly have heard about is the areas we close on an annual basis for two months each year when the peregrine falcons return and decide on nesting areas. The birds have nested up there for over 10 years now. The site has been very successful in the past. Activity near the nest sites would disrupt the birds. Climber response has always been very good to these closures. The closed portions vary by year, depending on where the falcons determine is good. This past year the area closed was from the North Tower East past the Gnomon. We do post these areas on our home page (Tettegouche's section) on the DNR web site when nest sites and closed areas are determined. The site address is www.dnr.state.mn.us Please go to the State Parks portion, Parks A-Z, and then choose Tettegouche. It will be in the Visitor Alert section.
